COUNCILLOR DERMODY CALLS FOR THE PLANNED EXTENDED CAPACITY TALLAGHT STADIUM TO BE USED AS A CONCERT VENUE TO FUND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

In light of South Dublin County Councils plan to increase the capacity of Tallaght Stadium to hold 8,500 spectators, Councillor Anne-Marie Dermody is calling on the South Dublin County Council Manager to open Tallaght Stadium as a concert venue.
Councillor Dermody, a General Election candidate for Dublin South-West, said that “Opening the planned extended capacity Tallaght Stadium to concerts would be of huge benefit of Tallaght and its surrounding areas.”
The overall cost to extend the stadium will be €750,000 and will be fully funded by South Dublin County Council. This extension will mean that 2,500 extra people can be held in the venue. The project will construct a north stand and architects are currently looking at the building design of the stand. The construction of the stand will take place in 2017.
Councillor Dermody said “opening up Tallaght Stadium to be a concert venue would bring much needed funds to the community. The profits made could go back directly in to the community to fund local initiatives and projects. Tallaght Stadium as a concert venue would significantly boost local businesses and furthermore provide business opportunities for the locality.”
Councillor Dermody concluded by saying that “Tallaght Stadium is geographically perfect as a concert venue as it is not in a residential area, there is fantastic public transport right beside the venue including bus stops and a Luas stop and the venue is directly across from a hotel and other accommodation providers. This is a no brainer.”
